AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF TAI CHI & QIGONG – Qld
Hello
Our “Exercise like an Adult” for healthy aging workshops with special guest Master Joel Timmons in Brisbane and the Gold Coast were great learning experiences. All participants came away with new methods to make their body and mind stronger, calmer and more flexible. We learned how to improve our fitness level and reduce stress, and explored some real life self-defence skills.
It’s winter a good time to energise with exercises like the Lohan Qigong. Check the seasonal exercise blog on our Livingchi site Read the blog (click here)

The “Train the Trainer” workshop in Charleville was a big hit, with 30 participants, mostly in the Allied Health field. They came from all parts of South West Queensland, from Morven to Mungindi, Roma to St George….. and Charleville! The two day course was a refresher for quite a few of the people, who wanted to brush up their skills after attending previous courses, and an exciting introduction to the world of benefits from using Applied Tai Chi for the newcomers.
The Academy was invited to participate in the inaugural ‘International Tai Chi Wellbeing Festival’ organised by the ‘Tourism Confucius Institute’ of the Griffith University Gold Coast. Guests included the Chinese Consul General, Chinese Tai Chi medallists, a calligraphy & martial arts expert doctor, and various other Chinese community members. The Academy’s Lotus and Master Rod’s Fan demonstrations were much praised for the high level of internal skills displayed. Once again, the Academy is held in high esteem for the obvious mindful practice we cultivate through all of our forms. Thanks to the instructors and students who participated in the performance.
Master Rod will be presenting the ‘Five Animal Frolics’ at the QPAC ‘Out of the Box’ Festival for children aged under 8 years. If you want more info on this, there is a series of video clips on Facebook to watch. You can also watch them on the Academy’s Youtube channel (click here) – Alena (Bundaberg instructor) is starting them much earlier:- “I have had a few expectant mothers attending classes over the years and their babies were the calmest I have ever seen. ‘Chi’ really is contagious..what a wonderful energy it is!”
Phillip Pointin has opened new classes on the Sunshine Coast if you know anyone there let them know there are now day and evening classes. Class details click here
To fly off, a bird needs to step off from a firm place to lend force. – Master Yang sensed that as the bird tried to step onto his hand, he withdrew his force to give it no ground. Tai chi is very much about the ability to sense and control the force at its roots. A story passed down from the late 1800’s.

Wow, it’s forty years since I joined the Academy and started my Tai Chi journey with Grandmaster Gary Khor. After doing Tai Chi, teaching here and there and a Tai Chi Growth Centre project he decided to open an Academy that would take Tai Chi and the Traditional approach to health into the future and … here we are. Don’t miss our 40th Annual Seminar, each year they get better!
