AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF TAI CHI & QIGONG – Qld
Greetings for 2016 and we hope that this new year brings you many happy, relaxing and healthy times.
The Chinese New Year of the Fire (Red) Monkey will start on February 8, 2016 – the second New Moon after the Solstice. Following 12 months of the dignified and sure-footed Goat, the New Year of the Red Monkey is going shake, rattle and roll! According to Chinese Five Elements Horoscopes, Monkey contains Metal and Water. Metal is connected to gold. Water is connected to wisdom and danger. Therefore, we will deal with more financial events in the year of the Monkey. People born in a year of the Monkey are witty, intelligent, and have a magnetic personality. Personality traits, like mischievousness, curiosity, and cleverness, make them very naughty. Monkeys are masters of practical jokes, because they like playing most of the time. Though they don’t have any bad intentions, their pranks sometimes hurt the feelings of others. Monkeys are fast learners and crafty opportunists.
The Fire Monkey’s characteristics are:- Ambitious and adventurous, but irritable. They have many interests and need partners who are capable of stimulating them. While some like the eccentric nature of Monkeys, some don’t trust their sly, restless, and inquisitive nature. Although they are clever and creative, monkeys can’t always exhibit their talent properly. Monkeys like to take challenges and they prefer urban life to rural.
The Woodford Folk Festival daily Tai Chi sessions on the Village Green were extremely popular and had great numbers, averaging 200 people of all ages each day. We received so much very positive feedback, as people found the sessions to be very enjoyable and beneficial under the guidance of Master Rod. >> Click here for some pictures

This is a very special year for the Academy – it is 40 years since it was established by Grandmaster Khor in 1976. Our Annual Queensland Seminar in Brisbane (Aug 19th to 21st) with Grandmaster Khor and Master Rod will be celebrating this milestone. The New South Wales Annual Residential Seminar in Sydney on Sept 2nd to 4th will be the major celebration, so you may consider visiting Sydney to attend this special weekend.
With much excitement, we are planning the next Queensland group’s China tour at Easter 2017. It is an experience not to be missed. Start saving now so you can join Grandmaster Khor and Master Rod as we journey to the home of Tai Chi and the culture of the associated arts. We don’t have the itinerary yet, but it is sure to include great scenery, superb meals, plentiful Tai Chi practice and amazing shows. The big plus of this trip is that we leave from (and return to) Brisbane Airport!
Master Rod is conducting another ‘Train the Trainer’ weekend seminar in Brisbane, specifically for Allied Health Workers in Aged Care, but it is also excellent for anyone interested in healthy ageing. The course “Applied Tai Chi” for healthy aging will incorporate Chronic Disease Management and Falls Prevention, and will be held at New Farm on the weekend of 12-13 March. >> More details click here for poster
We are reminded that in the fast pace of today’s lifestyle, we can’t afford to be complacent about our health and our activity levels. It is up to each of us to care for our own well-being, and to ensure we look after our mind and body – to stay fit and well to enjoy our leisure time. Please join us for classes this year for your own health maintenance. Academy classes commence the week on Jan 25, and Active & Healthy park sessions also starting again in February – with some sessions already on! Check the schedule for details at

The Valuable Art of Practice
Practicing slowly reveals your deficiencies.
If you cannot do a movement slowly you haven’t discovered your deficiencies yet.
You will have more knowledge to use if needed if you slowly explore every aspect of a movement.
It gives you time to think … don’t panic!
