On Being Present
You can only do one thing at a time. So, if you are to do that one thing, why not give it your complete, undivided attention. When you sweep, sweep. When you sit, sit. When you walk, walk. Chop wood, carry water…this is the core of mindful living and the essence of evolving into a conscious being. – An old Zen saying.
If you worry about what might be, and wonder what might have been, you will ignore what is.
“Zen” is the Japanese name for “Chan” an idea that originated in China, when Buddhists were introduced to Taoists. Although it was practised as a religion it has now become a widely accepted philosophy.
Zen/Chan = being awake not dreaming = being present = in the moment, now
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that we tend to put off living. We are dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon – instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. – Dale Carnegie
Everybody’s got a past. The past does not equal the future unless you live
there. – Tony Robbins
The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but thought about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral. It is as it is. – Eckhart Tolle
Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply. – Thich Nhat Hanh
